There’s a few points I’d like to make here regarding WP and it’s benefits relating to search engine optimization. From personal experience, I can tell you that these methods will only help you in your affiliate marketing quest.
The #1 problem with trying to get a product visible to surfers is getting traffic. You can buy traffic (expired domain redirects, exchanges, etc.) all day or stumble till you fingers bleed, but chances are, you may not receive converting traffic. Now, you may have some success with PPC programs, but you will need to spend some money! Obviously, we would like to market our products as cheaply as possible.
This is where Wordpress can really help you with affiliate marketing. Have you ever typed in a popular digital product into Google and receive 50+ websites selling the same product? It’s frustrating, I know. However, once you begin browsing some of the pages you realize that many of these aren’t even optimized for search engines. You need to take advantage of this!
I don’t have a clue on how many plugins are available for WP, but I know that many of them are effective (speaking from personal experience). In regards to affiliate marketing, the one that has helped me most is the All-in-One SEO Pack. From the author:
“Automatic Search Engine Optimization (SEO) out of the box for your wordpress blog …”
“This plugin is streamlined for some best practices for Wordpress SEO.”
This will definitely help your site in terms of SEO. Wordpress in general will allow you to optimize your site due to the numerous amounts of content plugins.
Many of you may not know this, but Wordpress themes themselves can actually be viewed as duplicate content in Google’s algorithm (although I don’t believe it carries much weight). One way that I help change content is by changing the theme’s images. This helps my site in terms of SEO as well. (Disclaimer: Make sure you feel comfortable with CSS). If I have a blog about selling cameras, I will change my header.gif to digitalcameraimage.gif in my files. Then I would need to change the language in my css file to reflect the rename. Next, I would change the footer.gif to digitalcameracompare.gif and follow the same instructions. You get the picture.
Good luck!

I use headspace2 for SEO. It has lots of good features. Cforms II for contact forms. Adman to monetize my blog a little and akismet to be spam free.
I’m not sure about that double content with free templates. Most of us do use free themes and even Matt Cutts told that wordpress is future.
Thanks Wiatraki! I’ll check some of those out!
